FAQs Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my employees need hearing tests?

Hearing tests are required if your workplace noise level is above 85dB(A) and/or you supply hearing protection devices of any kind to your employees. If you do not know the sound level of your workplace we can conduct a noise survey for you.

How often should hearing testing be conducted?

Hearing tests should be conducted within three months of any employee commencing employment, at any time when reasonably requested to do so by the O,H and S representative OR in any event at least every two years.

How long will my employees be away from their jobs for the hearing testing?

Each hearing test normally takes between ten to fifteen minutes.

What happens if the company runs two or more shifts?

Just go on with your business as usual. We will also work in shifts to ensure there is minimal disruption to your normal work day.

Do I need a noise survey?

If you have to raise your voice to speak to someone at arm's length then your workplace may be too noisy. Employers will only be requited to test where there is uncertainty (based on reasonable grounds) about whether the exposure standard (85 dB for eight hours) is being exceeded. You should also have a noise survey if you provide hearing protection to your employees OR if you change any equipment or processes.
