- The results folder contains control options such as engineering solutions in the form of low dB nozzles for compressed air and the types of hearing protection and signage available.
- We found the services of HPS highly professional and helpful in assisting with legal compliance and the duty of care for its people.
- We are a manufacturing company that has been in operation since 1964. We have used Hearing Protection Services for the past 5 years. I have found Hearing Protection Services to be co-operative, efficient and reliable in dealing with our operational needs.
Hearing tests are required if your work place noise level is above 85dB(A) and/or you supply hearing protection to your employees. If you do not know the sound level of your workplace we can conduct a noise assessment for you.
How often should testing be conducted?
Hearing tests should be conducted within three months of commencing employment, at any time when reasonably requested to do so by the OH&S representative or in any event at least every two years.
How long will my employees be away from their jobs?
Each hearing test normally takes between 10 to 15 minutes.
Do I need to test new employees?
As per the regulations new employees should be tested within 3 months of commencing employment. By testing within this period you will have a baseline hearing test of the employee that will highlight any existing hearing loss at the start of their employment.
What do I do if I have two or more shifts?
Just go on with your business as normal, we will work in with your shifts to ensure there is minimal disruption to your normal work day.
What is required to have my employees tested?
All we require to conduct the hearing test is a place to park and access to a 240v power point.
What if some employees are away on the day of the test?
We can arrange to test any employees that were missed the next time we are in the area.
Do I need a noise survey?
If you have to raise your voice to speak to someone at arms length then your workplace may be too noisy. Employers will only be required to test where there is uncertainty (based on reasonable grounds) about whether the exposure standard (85dB for 8 hours) is being exceeded.
You should also have a noise survey conducted if you provide hearing protection to your employees or if you change any equipment or processes.
What information will a noise survey give me?
By conducting a noise assessment we can determine
- Any noisy equipment in your workplace
- Personal noise exposure
- Noise level equivalent to an 8 hour shift
- Peak noise level
- Areas to be made hearing conservation areas
- Correct Class of hearing protection
